Claire Dalloz was brought up in Nigeria, West Africa. Her childhood was
one of freedom and movement, spent mostly outdoors close to nature, either
swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, climbing trees or running barefoot through
tropical rainstorms. This love of nature, movement and freedom has been an
integral part of her life and it was inevitable that this led her to discover Yoga
during her studies at Bath University in England. Yoga is a mirror of life
in all its manifold aspects and Claire rediscovered in its practice this sense
of liberty, movement and proximity to nature that she had enjoyed as a child.
Now as a mother of three and a yoga teacher Claire enjoys sharing this aspect
of Yoga with her students and children.
Claire’s Yoga studies started in Bath under the guidance of a wonderful and very wise Hatha Yoga teacher. Many years later she discovered Sivananda Yoga in New York and Iyengar Yoga in England. In the 90’s, on returning back to Switzerland, she went to her first Astanga Vinyasa Yoga class taught by Bruno Dietziker and was immediately hooked! The powerful and dynamic Astanga practice suited her personality, challenged her to the core and changed her life in so many positive ways. She was so overawed by this practice that she decided it was time to share it with others and started teaching small groups at home. Simultaneously she taught at Yoga Works for Bruno and at Airyoga, where she also taught Vinyasa Flow classes. In 2005 she successfully completed an International Teacher Training course in Zurich, under the professional guidance of Clive Radda, Glenn Ceresoli (a renowned Iyengar Yoga teacher) and Lance Schuler. Claire regularly visits workshops in Switzerland (seminars at the Yoga University in Villeret) and abroad with international yogis such such as Glenn Ceresoli, Shiva Rea, Dharma Mittra, Anna Forrest, David Swenson, amongst others, and had the privilege of joining a week’s workshop with Sri Pattabhi Jois in London in 2003.
Claire’s teaching style is influenced by the powerful Astanga Vinyasa Yoga and the detailed precision of Iyengar Yoga. She teaches powerful, dynamic flow classes guiding her students to test their own limits but always emphasising a safe practice that respects each body’s physical limitations.
Claire is a member of the Swiss Yoga Union (www.swissyoga.ch) and is on the recognised list of Health Insurance Companies.
Claire is also a certified fitness teacher (AFAA) and spent many years, teaching, and managing fitness classes. (Aerobics, Bodytoning, Stretch, Step). She has a background in medical massage therapy and worked in a doctor’s practice as well as leading her own massage practice for a few years.
